Are the Total Security scammers being prosecuted?

I wasted a half day on that nasty bit of spyware. It got past my AVG antivirus but I used the FREE Spybot Search and Destroy v1.6.2 from Safer-Networking http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html to remove it. The Total Security malware tries to trick you into buying a removal tool. However, when you research other tools to remove it, they also charge you. i.e. free scan but pay to remove. I think that is opportunistic at best and a part of the scam at worst. I want my 4 hours on a Saturday back!

You are lucky, total security is couple months old and already added to Spybot… Malwarebytes anti-malware is much better at adding new parasites to their databases, though they do not provide real time protection. Also, superantispyware is better than spybot from free tools.

Personally, I think investing in good antivirus and anti-spyware is good thing, as you can blame their product when you got problems and you can make them to fix your PC.
