svchost.exe???

I got Vista like 5 months ago and it’s been working great. I update things as much as possible and I scan for viruses and spyware on a daily basis. But recently I noticed my computers been real slow. Video games that usualy have no speed problems pretty much freeze every 2 seconds. So I opened up my task manager and I looked through the processes and then I seen whats been making my computer so slow. I have around 15 “svchost.exe” processes usuing about 3,000 K of memory each.

I scanned for viruses and spyware a couple minutes ago and my the program didnt come up with anything. So my question is why is there so many proccesses of the same program and how do i get rid of them? I tried ending them but that screwed up my computer and I had to reboot. What do I do now?

Please help.

Svchost.exe is one of the main parts of Windows… it runs essential services – so yeah, killing it will make things go boom.

Check out your running services (Admin Panel – Computer Management – Services) to see if there are things running you can do without.
