WHY do people still use windows?
I gotta ask this because they charge for it, and it
is full of security problems like viruses and spyware
and who knows what else , also they make sure every laptop you buy has vista on it , for corparate
and profit gain and it is just terrible, why not everyone switch to ubuntu (linux) which is free
and does way more than windows and will never
get virus or spyware attacks , plus everything open source,. Only thing about windows is that a baby noob can use it , thats why its targeted. Bill
gates is the one that came up with charging people money for software so lets all start using linux and ditch windows. Also why does microshit
use linux for there servers? because they know if they use there own software its vulnerable to hacking.
Most people I think use Windows because that’s what comes with most computers. Many people may have specific reasons for using Windows too.
Linux does not have the same level of software and hardware support that Windows does. Many programs are designed specifically for Windows and only for Windows. Trying to get those programs to run on Linux (without Linux specific ports) is, at best, hit or miss in my experience.
Hardware drivers in Linux are not as easy to get (or use) as drivers in Windows. (Ndiswrapper anyone?) Some hardware devices may never work right under Linux.
Linux is nowhere near as easy to use a Windows. Even just installing a printer can be a confusing mess. Your average computer user wouldn’t know how to do a lot of things in Linux that can be done much easier in Windows.
When you come right down to it, in my opinion Linux is far better as a server OS then as a consumer OS. Windows is better as a consumer OS then a server OS. And the reason is, because that’s what they were designed for.
And I seriously doubt that Bill Gates was the first person to charge money for software. Besides, Free Software (In the Open Source meaning) means free as in speech, not free as in money. It is possible to charge money for Open Source software.
And for the record, I use both Linux and Windows. I’ve even run Linux on my PS2 and when I get a PS3 installing Linux is something I intend to do. However I end up using Windows most of the time because it can do what I want to do while with Linux it can be a trial to get it to do anything.
