What’s the best anti-virus and anti-spyware software?

I have McAfee and spent good money on it, but my internet explorer is always running so badly and I have a perfect connection. My downloads are quick, but my web-browsing is just so slow. So what Anti-virus and anti-spyware should I get?
I downloaded Firefox and it has problems loading pages too.

well theres two issues there. it may well be that mcafee is causing the slowdown, but you have already paid for it and any replacement would really only be something equivalent rather than an upgrade.

you may want to ignore the comments about free avg. the free version lacks the ewido engine of the commercial product, and even the commercial product falls behind in av comparison tests. its not that great a system.

So, anyway, to test whether its your av or your browser, download a copy of firefox and see what the speeds are like. If its quicker than IE and has pretty much the same features and interface. You may solve your problem without spending any money and without having to alter any of your existing security setup.

Two advantages which you may be interested in is that it is a faster browser, and there is less malware targeted at it in comparison to IE.
