I need Urgent Help with a Virus!!!!!?
Mcafee keeps finding this Trojan called Generic.dx!har in C:WindowsSystem32winlogon.exe and deleting it over and over again( every minute). I tried restoring to an earlier point when i didn’t have the problem but that didn’t work, so I disabled system restore, rebooted in safe mode with networking and scanned my PC with SUPERAnti-Spyware, Malwarebytes, Spybot Search-and-Destory, Mcafee, and the Microsoft Nov 2009 scanner. Only SUPER and Mcafee found it. I deleted it, rebooted and logged on normally, and it’s still there! What should I do!!? And is it dangerous?
I have Windows XP Service Pack 3
I couldn’t find that particular threat listed under McAfee’s threat center, but there are loads of similar ones, which suggests that they are similar in nature.
The fact that McAfee cannot remove the threat even when you’re in safe mode without system restore on, suggests that it is a rather pernicious variety of threat.
The only thing I can suggest would be to reformat your PC. Whilst you could waste time trying other AV’s to get rid of the threat, there will never be a 100% guarantee of getting shot of it completely.
