Spyware Detection

False Spyware Detection on a mac?

Is it possible for false spyware detections to occur on macs? I was at billboard.com checking the top ten songs and then a dialogue box pops up saying my comp has been infected with spyware. When i selected to have a scan it re-directed to a windows based website. Is this alert real or false?

Its fake you have no infection, you are getting smitfraud, they say Mac’s cannot get spyware however I,ve seen two with smitfraud.

SmitFraud has become a term to mean an infection where fake security alerts appear in your taskbar stating that you are infected. These alerts tend to be accompanied by a rogue anti-spyware program installed on your computer without your consent. Clicking on one of these fake security alerts will either bring you to a home page where you can purchase other fraudulent software or will install automatically, without your permission, one of these software.
