How do I protect my child from spyware and entering bad sites?
My 12 year old daughter has a computer in her room. She gets popups all the time. Also I want to control what sites she has access to. Is there a free way to do this?
All computer security experts will tell you the same thing on this. If you want to keep your child safe online, don’t let them have a computer in their room. Put the computer out in family room where mom and dad are present. You don’t have to stand over their shoulder and watch their every move, simply being present will keep them from going to places they shouldn’t. That’s why she’s getting pop-ups all the time. She has visited sites that she shouldn’t visit and they’ve put cookies or Adware or spyware on her computer. You can also try software like Net Nanny. However, the most effective method, by far (and the cheapest), is good old fashioned responsible parenting; put the computer in the same room you’re in and they’re won’t be so many problems.
