Program that alerts you when installed apps are sending out info?

Whats the best program that can alert me when any of the installed programs on my computer sends or retrieves information on the net? I know there are spyware programs but I’m looking for something more specific for this type of use. Any suggestions?

I would say Comodo firewall will do that. You can also set it not to allow a program to send anything out. Norton firewall can also be configure to do that. Either way you are going to have to learn a lot about setting up and configuring a firewall.
