Unless you start right off with the absolute best in spyware-blocking tools, spyware infections are a problem that you will inevitably encounter. In fact, unless you have a program that takes care of everything, spyware removal will become a whole new skill set for you to learn.

Though there isn’t an actual guarantee of success, there is a process that one can use to clean up spyware without spending any money. Of course, this will probably take you about four hours to finish instead of about 15 with a real quality program. This is to illustrate how complicated a thorough spyware cleaning is without the right program.

First, install a program that gets rid of junk files. You will also want to install a program or two to list the automatic running files. Sounds pretty complicated already, doesn’t it?

Then, you disconnect your computer from the internet and reboot it in Safe Mode by hitting the F8 button when Windows starts to reboot. Select “Safe Mode” and log in to your Administrator account. Select “Run” from the start menu and type in: msconfig. Then select the Services tab, check the “Hide all Microsoft Services” box, then click the “Disable All” button. Then select the Startup tab, and click the “Disable All” button. After that’s done, select “Exit without Restart.”

Now run your junk file program. After that, run your file listing programs and disable the ones that look suspicious. Of course, you need to know what these files are, which requires that you have some expertise in the matter.

Then you open “Run” in the Start Menu and type in mrt to run the Malware Removal Tool that came with Windows. After that’s done, restart your computer in regular mode and reconnect it to the internet. Now, download the top two free antispyware programs, the top free spyware blocker and the top free antivirus program. Update them, activate the blocking tools, and restart in Safe Mode.

Now you run the antispyware and antivirus programs. You will always have to run these in Safe Mode to ensure that they will remove what spyware and viruses they find. Then, you recheck your automatic file listing programs. Again, this assumes that you know what you’re looking for.

Now you reboot again in normal mode and run all your antispyware and antivirus programs AGAIN to make sure they didn’t miss anything. After that, you run your Defragmenter (Start Menu, Control Panel, “Rearrange files on your hard disk to make programs run faster”), which will take you at least an hour to do. Then you open “msconfig” again, re-enable everything and “Exit with Restart” this time.

Isn’t this a fabulous waste of time? This is what you can expect to deal with in order to have a 99% removal assurance with free software. Of course, that’s assuming that you’re not infected with a spyware that has been released in the last week. Luckily, there is an antispyware program out there that can give 100% assurance in about 15 minutes, and with one button click.
