what should i do if my computer is infected with viruses?

my cpu has been infected for about 1-2 months now, i think. it got bad about 3 wks ago..when this fake virus thing popped up called “spyware protect 2009″. it kept saying my cpu was infected and i needed to download the program but i didnt do it. i couldnt even go on the internet! my friend who i was on the phone with gave me a link to remove the fake popup, and it actually worked. it was called spyware doctor. well today the same spyware protect 2009 came back on my cpu. i tried to remove it but i think it’s still up here because when i tried to log into ebay, this page came up saying i needed to verify my identity by typing in credit card info..which was definitely spoof. any suggestions on what i should do? should i buy another computer or use stuff like norton? please help =/

You need to go to this link I’m giving you. Follow the instructions to remove the threat. I think you are going to find that you are infected with several things. But this will be a good place to go. They also have forums that will help you if you need it. Once you get your computer clean, I think you should get Norton Internet Security 2009. They have a free trial and you can download it from Norton.There are other good security suites but this one is good and easy to use. You need to make sure you get all of spyware protect off your computer. No one program is going to do it. May people have posted here for removal and used Malwarebytes which is a very good removal program. They thought they were clean and found that they were reinfected a short time later. That’s because all of it was not removed.
