What is the best virus protection program for mac?
I would prefer a free one I could download.
I am looking for a good program most of all.
I want it easy to use. If it does adware and spyware too that would be great.
Yeah, I know people aren’t making that many viruses for mac. They definitely aren’t immune.
I want to be ahead of the curve though. Protect my mac while i still have time.
Free: ClamXAV, link below. Pay: Virex, Norton, Sophos, Intego, MacScan, Avast. There have been only a couple of viruses (worms, actually) for Mac over the years so it is not a big problem. When I worked for Apple, we used Virex. I have never had a virus on any of the many Macs I have used for the past 15 years. I ran ClamXav once. It took 20 minutes and found nothing. Be sure to turn on your built-in Firewall (System Preferences > Sharing — choose “Advanced” and enable Stealth Mode — click to keep a log if you wish — it will surprise you how many attempts to enter come and are blocked), use a router as an added hardware layer to make infiltrations less likely. Use Firefox with NoScript extension to keep web sites from adding stuff to your drive.
