Linux (Kubuntu) requires a virus/Adware/spyware scan?

Do linux based operating systems require a virus/spyware/adware scanner? Because they are very safe and have little viruses made for them, do I really need one? If so, what brands/products do you recommend?

Linux is much more secure, as you have to enter a password to become the root user. No system files can be modified by non-root users. Therefore, there is little to no chance of ever being attacked by any sort of virus within Linux. The only reason you may want to scan is to protect any Windows machine you may have. Linux won’t be affected, but it can still carry the virus. The same goes for spyware/adware.

If you choose to use an anti-virus, I recommend Clam AV. You can follow this guide from the Ubuntu Geek.
