Will using a non routing protocol like netbeui protect my local network?
I’m thinking of using a linux internet proxy server to browse from my local XP based home network and using only netbeui to connect my machines to the linux box.
Can I avoid TCP/IP on my local network and still access the net?
Will using a non routing protocol like netbeui offer me any protection for my windows machines from spyware / hacking?
If it will, is there a better / more efficient protocol to use, and would implementing this strategy have any unforseen consequences such as not being able to use certain website features or slowing down my browsing?
I know that I need to use TCP/IP for the Linux proxy server, but do I need to install it on my local XP based network to access the proxy?
Sorry, you will need to install TCP/IP to use the internet.
HOWEVER, it will keep your fileshares protected if you only link it to netbeui..
Me personaly I would just install a good firewall and leave it at that
