I know who has hacked into my computer and placed spyware. who should I consult? The site owner is in NY.?
I know my computer has been hacked and spyware has been placed on my computer by a site owner in NY. I have confidential company info on my computer, as well as my passwords. I also believe my other computer has been hacked by the same site owner. The guy is keeping tabs on my computer for months and that is pissing me off. How do I deal with it? I have nothing against the guy but this is against the law. No one has the right to invade someones privacy. My associate advised me to contact US cyber crime department and express my concern. Any professional advise?
I am sorry to hear about your situation but it was entirely preventable. Click on my source cite below and follow their advised steps on what you should do next.
You should be protecting your system especially with confidential information regarding clients and that info should always be kept on a separate PGP encrypted section of your HDD or a PGP encrypted USB HDD.
It is too late to fuss about having been “hacked” but I have to say a little about it and if I am incorrect with my assumptions then I sincerely apologize. Spyware can’t get installed unless you go to a site and download it or install a program which has the nefarious code built into it. Sometimes people are duped into downloading something which entirely malicious. It is up to the individual user to become well informed about the net and the latest security issues surrounding operation security.
Do you have a firewall installed and your router configured correctly and if you are on wireless do you have your wireless router password protected? Spyware prevention? Anti virus? If the company you are working for does not have their network secure they are begging for trouble but I doubt they don’t have their stuff locked down. If you don’t have any of this then you are not being a responsible, knowledgable computer user.
Good luck with the cyber crimes division but start with your company first and advise the network admins of what has happened to you. If you put your system on their network you could be jeopardizing the whole infrastructure of their intranet. Go ahead and seek legal counsel but they are going to ask you what crime has been committed etc… possibly take your computer for investigation purposes and if you do not have your important UNHACKED info backed up in a separate location then you are in a worse hole than ever.
Quite a pickle…. good luck….
