How do I remove a spyware that infected my computer named “iexplore”?

Assuming you were making the joke that Internet Explorer is as good as spyware, there are several ways to eliminate it. First, try right-clicking “my computer” – properties – “System Restore” tab – check “Turn off system restore on all drives” and press OK.
Now, navigate to “C:Program FilesInternet Explorer” and delete everything in that folder (make sure you don’t currently have internet explorer windows open, and make sure you have some other way to access the internet, such as Mozilla Firefox).
Wait a few seconds, if you start noticing the files popping back up, then you’re going to need to do something clever that I found out how to do on my own.. Navigate to C:WindowsSystem32 and find a file called mstinit.exe …if you run it you’ll notice it doesn’t do anything and it doesn’t stay running, nor does it take up system resources. You should copy this file onto your desktop and rename it to iexplore.exe (or just iexplore if your file extensions are hidden (if you can’t see the .exe at the end of the mstinit then file extensions are hidden and just name the file iexplore))
Now, right click the newly renamed file and click copy, and then go back to C:Program FilesInternet Explorer ..quickly delete the iexplore.exe in that directory and click paste (this must be done very quickly)

I tried replacing iexplore with my own program that just automatically terminated, but windows would overwrite it with the original iexplore every time, until I realized that it looks at more than the file name, but doesn’t go so far as to check the program’s content. So I found a program that was included with windows that would automatically terminate if no arguments were provided, and that had a valid Microsoft program signature. The system restore checks look at the new iexplore.exe (formerly mstinit.exe), check for a microsoft signature, and then leave it alone. Now every time you click on a link to open internet explorer, mstinit will run and terminate, just as though you had uninstalled the microsoft beast.

There IS one drawback to this. This method only deletes the Internet Explorer shell, not the inner dlls and system workings. AKA you can still type a url into the address bar of a normal folder, and it will display the website using IE’s protocols.

My apologies if this answer had nothing to do with the question at hand. If you truly are looking for a way to get rid of spyware, go to www.download.com and search for Spybot Search and Destroy

[edit] PS, you should re-enable system restore after all that is done, it’s a handy fallback [/edit]
