I use hijackthis for my spyware and also use windows defender?

i do regular checks with hijackthis and delete when appropriate
am i safe to remove windows defender and just use hijack this

HijackThis is a *very* powerful tool and unless you’ve been fully trained in how to use it you’ll probably do more harm to your computer than spyware will. If you’d been trained in HJT you wouldn’t need to ask the question.

There’s very few actual viruses about, Adware and spyware is far more prevalent and far more dangerous. However, most ‘anti-virus’ programs also target other malware, not just viruses. The free versions of AVG and Anti-Vir are about the only ones which offer no spyware/adware protection.

Windows Defender is OK but not great. I’d suggest *also* using SuperAntiSpyware along with a good anti-virus program. Even the free version of Avast will target adware/spyware as well as viruses. But it’s your pc, if you think you can keep it safe by using HJT, good luck to you.
