Spyware is a term for referring equipments used by men in the spying work. It could include grappling guns, tiny cameras, and any similar gadgets. Since early 2000, the computers have changed names of several terms and also their meanings. It has given way to a new meaning for “Spyware”. A lot of changes made the term “Spyware” to mean what it is meant today.

It goes back to a story when a man, Mr. Steve Gibson, one day discovered a few advertizing software which were installed in his machine without any trace of his consent or knowledge. He claimed these programs to get hold of his private information from the system without the user’s consent. In the course of time he took back his claim; however insisted that no company should secretly have software programs installed in anyone’s computer.

Eventually, Gibson introduced the first software against Spyware. It was called the OptOut. Ever since, many companies followed the suite and are still offering varied types of anti-Spyware programs.

Spyware Programs are of different nature. Important ones are given below.

1) Adware

When you browse the internet, there are websites which open up suddenly displaying several products up on the screen. They could undoubtedly annoy anyone for that matter. A few of such ads may disappear, however, quite many of them persist and keep bothering with the pop ups. In such cases adware is the actual culprit. Adware is always held responsible for any pop up ads and similar material coming on to your system.

Such Spyware programs are made by different companies for the promotion of their products. A few of them also advertize these Spyware to be Spyware removing programs and try to provide it for a download.

Such programs attempt in gaining personal information from your system. At times when you try searching with the keyword “games”, you would find these companies advertizing products with their pop ups.

2) Data Miner

This is software designed to gain all information about the user. Keystrokes of the end user are recorded so that almost every private information of the user gets recorded when the keyboard is used. It means that any personal information ranging from credit card numbers to the matter of your breakfast would be known by people. The entire identity gets stolen in cases of such software programs.

However not all of these programs are utilized for theft of information. Quite many of them are utilized for anonymous surveys. Few of them are generic and would not hunt for any private information of the user. Instead they are used for compiling information about the latest trends of activities over the internet.

3) Dialers

Such software programs could cause serious financial harm to the user. Such Spyware would mess up the Internet connection routing it over an expensive telephone line. Unlike the regular internet connection in such cases, the speed could slow down drastically.

The above are the very general and basic forms of spyware programs. There are several other forms of such spyware programs which one should be aware of. People often make Spyware on daily basis, either to earn that quick buck or because of having ample time with them. As you know more about such programs, you could take preventive steps against them and also know how to have them eliminated if ever you are infected from them. This would undoubtedly ensure a Spyware free Computer System for your use.
