Security software for Vista?

I have had problems with viruses etc since moving to Vista. I am going to wipe my laptop and would like recommendations on what security software (freeware please) I should be installing when it’s clean. I don’t trust the Vista firewall so I need one of those (will I need to disable Vista firewall if running another?), antivirus (I have AVG now which is telling me there’ll no longer be free updates soon), anti-spyware (running Ad-Aware now) as well as anything else you recommend. Appreciate any help.
