Free adware remover?

I now use Spybot Search and Destroy to adware from my pc that I need to run manually, but I pay $ 50 per year per PC. Are there free downloads that can do that? My goal is to regularly clean my PC of unwanted software. I do have AVG antivirus Free seems to work better than Norton, I used to pay.
