How are Macs better than PCs when it comes to security?
My PC has all this anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, yadayadayada security software installed to protect my personal data. Yet my Mac doesn’t require installing any security software. Well…as far as I know. Has it been preinstalled by Apple and it’s working in the background without my knowledge?
One of the biggest reasons that Linux and Mac is more secure than Windows is the users power. By default, in Windows, a user is Administrator; they have the power to add, remove, and modify the system. In both Linux and Mac, a user does not have Root (Administrative) powers. To modify, install, or remove anything in the main system, the user must either login as root or use sudo commands, both of which require a password; this makes it very difficult to create malware/viruses for Linux and Mac; they cannot install themselves into the system without the users permission.
To my knowledge the only security that Apple gives Mac users is a Firewall; regardless of the operating system, the minimal security measure everyone must have is a Firewall.
