Here is another rogue antispyware to add to your list – Renus 2008. This application is a clone of Antivirus XP Pro and Antispyware 3000. Like the former, this program installs through Trojans, and displays warnings that your computer is infected and has severe security threats lurking. Do not click on this message, as you may cause real problems for yourself.
Fake applications such as Renus 2008 are designed to frighten the user in to running a scan to detect further threats. The kicker here is that these bogus applications cannot detect any viruses, trojans, or other infections, and the results displayed if you do perform the scan are fakes. Once the bogus results are displayed, you will then be informed that in order to remove all threats, you must purchase the full version of the product. Avoid this at all costs, as it is simply an attempt to take your money. This program will not do anything for the security of your pc, and may in fact install dangerous malware on it.
The best thing you can do is to remove these rogue software programs. This may be done manually, but unless you are an expert and really know what you are doing you may cause more harm than good. Certain files must be deleted, and if you miss one or mistakenly remove a file that should remain, you can cause more damage to your computer. The use of a legitimate antispyware tool to remove this rogue is recommended.
When Renus 2008 is installed, it will start each time you reboot. It will pretend to scan your pc, and always display the same infections, which are hard coded in to the program. Do not click on anything related to this rogue program, and remove it immediately. If you actually do have spyware on your computer, you will certainly know it, but this product cannot remove or detect anything at all.
If you truly are a victim of spyware, you will notice many odd behaviors on your pc. Most victims are bombarded with pop-up and banner ads which appear to be related to your online searches. This is because these applications actually do collect information about your browsing habits and the websites you visit. You may also notice that your computer is much slower than normal, or that your browser redirects to strange websites. A changed homepage or new toolbars in your browser may also be present.
To remove these malicious software programs, you must use an antispyware tool that is authentic and actually scans your pc for threats and infections. A legitimate program will perform the scan, remove the threats and completely restore security to your pc. While there are many real applications out there, most aren’t thorough enough to remove all threats.
