I need advice on how to access a virus that has been detected by my security program?
I use trend micro pc-cillin which i have just updated as i had a few problems.after scanning,it it found a heap of trojans and Adware which were quarantined and i have now deleted.however, i still have 2 left which my security is constantly showing me,and it is saying that it has been denied access.I have gone to -my computer and done a search for them but my search results keep on saying nothing found.I did find one,and deleted that file. But i dont seem to be able to find the others.for instance i am typing in exactly what i see–C:\Documents and settings\etc?–any advice please–should i wipe my hard drive??
Yeah there’s a lot of stuff out there now that hooks into Windows itself or installs rootkits so that you can’t see files to delete without editing the registry. You need to know exactly what to edit and what you’re doing. If you click on the following link you can be guided thru a fix using HijackThis and other tools that will give the exact information. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html
I have to disagree that what’s out there is not that serious. One because there aren’t really many true viruses going around. It’s mostly a blend of worms, trojans, adware, spyware, hijackers, etc. etc. controlled by cybercriminals that will use any means at their disposal to make money off of you. If they get remote access, they can download anything they want and will stealth it so you never know. Then it’s easier to just wipe the hard drive.
