Will playing Runescape install spyware / adware on your computer?

The reason I ask this because my friend, a true RuneScape himself has said that all the time, he plays a type of Runescape spyware is installed on your computer. He said he just scans and removes all day. I also played runescape and some spyware on my computer was isearch.net. I got rid of him and he reasearched on the Symantec site. I thought it was a pirate Internet Explorer. Have you ever found spyware or any other type of spyware on your computer after played Runescape? Thank you!
