My computer is running slow and I don’t know what the problem could be as I have tried cleaning and upgrade?

I increased my RAM to 1GB, used the disk cleanup feature, have scanned for viruses, adware, spyware and deleted my Internet browsing history. Is it possible I have a rootkit or worm or something that isn’t being detected? What else can I do?
