How do I get rid of an Adware that continually pops up?

When I try to download security that will clean out the virus/adware, a big red box pops up telling me I am entering a “potentially dangerous” site. Then at the bottom, it gives two choices: “Continue without protection” and “Buy product now.” Thanks for all of the answers so far, but, they haven’t helped (b/c I can’t download b/c it’ll block the site).
